Well I have, and recently the disastrous earthquake that hit Haiti in truth made me think very hard about what we have, what we don’t have, what we feel that we should have but moreover, what we take for granted. I saw some of the coverage on television and in truth, it broke my heart. Never before have I seen so much adverse poverty and hardship, but that lost look on the survivors faces was the thing that finally made me think about those questions I asked above in more depth than I have ever before. This painting was finished long before this catastrophe happened, and in a sense I feel a pang of guilt that has seemed to taint my work. I have therefore decided that, should this piece be bought, I will donate all of the monies that I receive from the sale to the fund that has been set up to help those poor people that are in far greater need of this small token of money than I."
